Meet Sprout – Meet Emma Lyon Carroll, Senior Project Manager
In our Meet Sprout series, we ask each member of the Sprout Health Solutions team about their work, what brought them here and what makes them tick. Next in the spotlight is Emma Lyon Carroll, Senior Project Manager, based in London.
1. What does your role at Sprout involve?
So many different things! I spend a big portion of my time working with our clients, making sure we are delivering the right things at the right time, and that everybody knows what they should be doing. My day tends to be packed full of planning, timelines, spreadsheets, slide decks, video calls and emails.
I love working with such an insightful and driven team of seriously intelligent women – every project is fascinating and requires a different focus and skill set.
2. What led you to this career?
I read Biochemistry at university and I realized pretty quickly I wasn’t cut out for life in a lab coat. I knew I was interested in health, life sciences and pharma so I wanted to find a role that combined my organizational skills in those fields.
With a little bit of luck I found myself working as a marketing assistant in biotechnology, and then went into specialist healthcare communications agencies and consultancies. Every role I’ve taken has had a common thread in client service, delivery, operations and strategy.
Most recently in my career I’ve been interested in delivering projects that are grounded in behavioral science, delivering behavior change interventions that are evidence-based to best support patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals.
3. What do you value most about the work you do at Sprout?
I am passionate about seeing the implementation of the content that we put so much care and research into developing for patients, caregivers and healthcare professionals. It is great to hear feedback from nurses in the field that our evidence-based patient support materials are proving helpful and valued.
I am lucky to be in a position to see the value of that work we do, it’s so rewarding.
4. What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?
I’m learning so much from our science team about how best to try to understand the people we’re speaking to. Whether this is asking questions face-to-face (or, in the current climate, zoom-to-zoom), listening to their feelings via social media, or approaching hundreds of people via online surveys.
It’s fascinating seeing the responses; people are passionate about health and wellbeing, and it really shows.
5. What 3 words would your friends use to describe you?
- Organized (luckily, this is key for my job!)
- Conscientious (as above!)
- Kind (this was nice of them)
6. If you could choose a superpower, what would it be?
Becoming a mummy has given me a few superpowers. I never thought it possible to juggle so much whilst multitasking and being productive, with such little sleep!
