The challenge:

To provide recommendations to retain patients to an app to record patient recorded outcomes (PROs) over a two-year clinical trial period. Our client was concerned about potential high dropout rates.

What we did:

  • Elicited barriers and facilitators of engagement in online clinical trials and identified strategies to support retention through a review of published evidence and primary research.
  • Evaluated an app prototype through face-to-face interviews with patients and patient charity representatives
  • Produced a final report with our findings and recommendations.

The outcome:

The client was able to ensure relevant behavior change strategies were incorporated into the app for collecting PRO data. They could therefore feel more confident about maintaining patient participation in their trials long-term.
